About us

MAAQ is the 
Peak body for
Aeromodelling
in Queensland

The association is made up of around 70 member clubs and Special Interest Groups (SIG’s), with over 2000 affiliate members across Queensland.

MAAQ is affiliated through:

  • MAAA – Model Aeronautical Association of Australia
  • ASAC – Air Sports Australia Confederation
  • FAI – Federation Aeronautique Internationale, the world air sports federation – Aeromodelling Commision (CIAM)


Our airspace is governed by the Australian Governments, Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and there are various regulations that you must comply with when operating model aircraft. MAAA provide a framework for operations  through the Manual of Procedures (MOP) that is approved by CASA for compliance, and our club fields are registered with CASA.

MAAA provides for comprehensive insurance coverage for your peace of mind. This includes public liability insurance as well as personal accident cover. You can find more information on insurance from the

There are many different model aircraft flying activities.

Radio Control – which includes fixed wing (planes), Helicopters and Multirotor. And there are many types of competitive and social categories like:

  • Aerobatics
  • Racing
  • Scale models
  • Gliders
  • Seaplanes etc.

Control Line – (with a direct lines / link with the pilot). Which includes categories like:

  • Aerobatics
  • Racing
  • Scale models
  • Combat etc.

Free Flight – with indoor and outdoor events which include climb, glide and duration components.
