Without any delay I have undertaken to start the series of Blog Posts and occasional Podcasts hosted by the MAAQ for the 2026-2027 Flying Year with this unadorned and unremarkable post.
I promise I will get better at formatting, inserting inane and unrelated graphics and unfunny aviation memes.
I am looking forward to sharing a series of what I hope will be informative, relevant and hopefully, at least from time to time, entertaining articles, links and presentations from around our Queensland Club Community.
I hope to draw on the collective expertise, enthusiasm and passion for Aeromodelling from our Club Executives, Affiliated Members and anyone associated with our hobby.
There is so much to share, and I know that Facebook, Forums and other forms of social media give us all ample opportunity to interact with modellers and specialists in the associated fields from around the world 24/7 but I want this space to be dedicated to the people who make Queensland aeromodelling the community it is – engaged, collaborative, knowledgeable, focused on safety and the integrity of getting the most out of the art and science of flying model aircraft in the great traditions of the MAAQ, MAAA and Australian Modelling going back to the beginnings of the era of flight.
I look forward to sharing some of the ideas I have for future content and encourage you to reach out to me at to discuss ideas you may have for short, impactful articles, interviews, knowledge sharing or anything else relevant. We will ensure the blog posts get coverage on the socials through our Public Relations Officer and draw on the collective expertise of the MAAQ Committee to make the most of the fantastic association we have all built together over the years – to go from strength to strength, encourage a new generation of modelers and reignite the passion in so many who may have stepped back for so many good reasons in life but need to know we miss them and how much better their life will be once they get back to flying (mostly, well some of the time, ok, would you believe at least once or twice 🙂
In my just over a year as secretary I have been inspired by so many of you, learned so much and grown not just as an aeromodeller – though I know many of you will reasonably doubt this 😀 – but as a dad, businessman and husband (ok that last bit really is a stretch), but I appreciate all you guys who make the job of secretary so worthwhile. Hope to see you out and about and in the air.
I hope I can make this commitment to at least a series of interesting posts a reality and will start with a couple of topics in the coming weeks and months – one, very close to my heart – the dark arcane arts of the rotary wing mob and another so important to everything we are responsible for – fire safety and our club preparedness in the event of an emergency.
